A Better Bowl Starts With Better Questions
Share
Choosing food for your dog can quickly become a wall of ingredients, claims, formats and feeding advice. The better question is not simply “Which food is best?” It is “What role do I need this food to play?”
At TGC, Feed Them Better is built around three simple feeding roles: Main Meal, Complementing Feed and Treat / Reward. That makes it easier to compare products by how they fit into your dog’s everyday routine — not just by flavour, format or packaging.
1. Start with the role in the meal
MAIN MEAL
A main meal is the core of everyday feeding. It should be suitable for regular feeding according to the product’s nutritional and feeding guidance.
V-Planet Regular Bites are positioned as a complete and balanced plant-powered food for adult dogs. The formula is made with ingredients including peas, lentils and quinoa, and is free from wheat, corn and soy. V-Planet Mini Bites use the same complete-and-balanced formulation in a smaller kibble size, so they can also function as a main meal where the smaller format suits the dog better.
COMPLEMENTING FEED
A complementing feed gives you another way to build variety into the bowl.
Ami V-Love wet foods can be served on their own or alongside dry food, depending on the specific product’s feeding guidance and your dog’s nutritional needs. That makes them useful both as a main meal option and as a complementing feed when you want to vary texture, flavour or format.
TREAT / REWARD
Treats and small bites play a different role. They can be used for rewarding, training or simply giving your dog something different.
Because V-Planet Mini Bites use a smaller kibble format, they can also work well as rewards or small additions. But they should not be thought of as “only treats” — they are still part of the same complete-and-balanced V-Planet formula.
2. Better does not always mean replacing the whole bowl
Sometimes feeding better means changing the main meal. Sometimes it simply means making the current routine more varied and considered.
If your dog already has a dry-food routine that works well, an Ami V-Love wet food can introduce a different texture or flavour without requiring you to overhaul everything at once.
If you want one everyday plant-powered dry food, V-Planet can play the main-meal role.
If you want smaller bites for a small dog, easier portioning or rewards, Mini Bites can fit more than one role.
The point is to understand what you are trying to improve before choosing the product.
3. Compare the food, not just the front of the pack
When you compare pet food, look beyond broad words such as “premium”, “natural” or “healthy”.
Start with:
• What role is this product intended to play?
• Is it suitable as a main meal, a complement, or a treat?
• What ingredients does it contain?
• What does the feeding guidance actually say?
• What format does your dog prefer?
• Does your dog have known sensitivities or ingredients you already avoid?
• How easily can the product fit into the routine you already have?
For example, V-Planet Regular and Mini Bites are very similar nutritionally; the practical difference is primarily kibble size and how that format fits your dog’s needs.
With Ami V-Love, the wet format creates a different use case: it can be served on its own or alongside dry food and rotated across flavours to add variety.
4. Variety can be useful — but keep the whole meal in mind
Adding wet food, changing flavours or using small bites as rewards can make feeding more interesting. But “adding” food should not automatically mean adding an extra full portion on top of the existing meal.
Use the feeding guide for the specific product and consider the total amount your dog is eating across:
• main meals
• wet food additions
• treats
• rewards
• other snacks
That becomes especially important if you regularly use food during training.
5. What if your dog has food sensitivities?
Ingredient transparency matters more when your dog has a known sensitivity.
V-Planet’s current TGC product information highlights that the formula contains no wheat, corn or soy and is positioned for adult dogs, including dogs with food allergies or sensitivities.
That does not mean one food is automatically right for every sensitive dog. If you already know a particular ingredient causes problems, check the full composition carefully. And if your dog has diagnosed allergies, recurring digestive issues or another medical condition, speak with your veterinarian before making a substantial diet change.
6. Change food gradually
Even when you find a better-fit option, an abrupt food change can be hard on some dogs.
When introducing something new, follow the transition guidance provided by the brand and introduce it gradually alongside the existing food. This is particularly relevant for dogs with sensitive stomachs or established feeding routines.
7. Build the bowl around your dog
There is no single “better bowl” that works for every dog.
For one pet, better might mean:
MAIN MEAL → V-Planet Regular Bites
For another:
MAIN MEAL → V-Planet Mini Bites
For another:
MAIN MEAL + VARIETY → Dry food + Ami V-Love wet food
And for another:
MAIN MEAL + REWARD → Everyday food + Mini Bites used in small amounts during training
The useful question is not “Which product wins?” It is:
What role does this food need to play for my dog today?
That is the idea behind Feed Them Better — clearer choices, more useful comparison and enough flexibility to build a feeding routine that works for the dog in front of you.
