Period Underwear: Period panties are like regular underwear, but with built-in leakproof layers that absorb your flow.  As shown in the graphic below from Knicked, period underwears are made using several different layers which together keep you totally protected for upto 10 hours without the need for bulky pads or tampons. They come in various styles and absorbencies for light to heavy periods. Simply toss them in the wash after use – most are machine-washable and reusable for years! A 2019 study published in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics [invalid URL removed] found that period underwear offered comparable leak protection to disposable pads. Washable Cloth Pads: These reusable pads are made from soft, breathable fabrics like cotton or bamboo. They come in a variety of sizes and absorbencies, just like disposable pads. After use, simply rinse them and toss them in the wash. Cloth pads are a cost-effective and eco-friendly choice, lasting for years with proper care. As Ann Gee of The Period Co says in an interview with Vogue, "Eco Femme Period Pads always wick away moisture to the middle of the pad, so you stay dry and comfortable even in humid climate. In contrast, disposables contain mostly plastic, including the top layers that your skin is in contact with, creating a moist environment that can promote the growth of yeast and bacteria."

Making the switch to reusable period products is easier than you think! Many brands offer starter kits with detailed instructions on use and care. With a little practice, you'll find the routine becomes second nature, leaving you feeling confident and comfortable throughout your period.
