From River Waste to a New Beginning

Every Rivermat begins with discarded sandals and rubber waste collected from waterways across Indonesia. Through a partnership between Indosole and Sungai Design, the recovered materials are cleaned, sorted, processed and pressed into a new form.

The mat’s distinctive speckled texture reflects the reclaimed materials used in its creation. Each mat is unique, with variations in colour and texture that tell the story of its recycled origins. No two mats are exactly alike, making every piece a reminder of the potential to give waste a second life.

The Rivermat represents a commitment to reducing waste and reimagining discarded materials through thoughtful design. In recognition of this work, the Riversole project by Indosole and Sungai Design received the Singapore Fashion Council Impact Award 2026, celebrating innovation in sustainable materials and responsible fashion.
